Spring Branch Independent School District, Houston,
TX
Spring Branch Independent School District of Houston, Texas was facing
two challenges. First, they were consistently hitting 100% utilization
on their T1-based WAN. Adding additional T1s was going to be very expensive
and did not give them a long range plan to deal with ever increasing bandwidth
consumption. Secondly, they had a master teacher program that was a logistical
challenge to say the least.
BNI and Time Warner teamed up to deliver a premier distance learning

High Speed WANs
BNI builds fiber-based, high speed WANs that deliver bandwidth to accommodate
voice video and data traffic running over the same network infrastructure.
City of Tyler Municipal Network
BNI partnered with TCA (now part of Cox Communications) to provide 100
Mbps Ethernet data capability to each of 18 sites for the city of Tyler,
Texas. Included on the network are the locations for the city's police
and fire facilities, as well as the county library, utility and court
facilities. The network design is unique in that it provides redundancy
through route diversity and automatic switching between paths.
"The most exciting thing about this technology
from our standpoint is it didn't cost us that much money. At the same
time, it's going to save us a tremendous amount of money, We are going
to run our telephony on this network," stated John D'Anna, Chief
Information Officer, City of Tyler.
Socorro Independent School District, El Paso Texas
BNI partnered with Time-Warner to provide 100 Mbps Ethernet data capability
to each of 22 sites that comprise the Socorro Independent School District
(SISD) for a period of ten years. The backbone connections provide the
capability for multiple Gbps. BNI's role in this project included proposal
response, design of the network, complete BOM, installation of the network
and ongoing maintenance and support.
"The school district is very excited about this
high speed network," stated Wim R. van den Berge, Executive Director of
Information Systems, Socorro Independent School District (SISD). "We have
seen the success of this type of network in other areas and we look forward
to running new leading-edge applications that will create a sense of community
within our district and enhance our student curriculum."
